On the afternoon of March 4, 1954, a motorcycle operated by Jimmy B. Overstreet, aged fifteen years, upon which E. H. Shaner, Jr., aged thirteen years, was also riding collided at a street intersection in the city of Lynchburg with an automobile operated by Frank Rosser Gough.
