Decedent was employed as a porter and assigned to a branch bank of the Manufacturers Trust Company in Brooklyn, New York, and resided on the bank premises with his wife in a rent-free apartment supplied by the bank. On October 7, 1951, a heavy rainstorm flooded the basement of the bank, and water rose therein to a height of approximately two feet.
