At the November 1953 election, Willie Warren, Republican, and Paul Rayburn, Democrat, were candidates for the office of sheriff of Green County. The canvass of the votes cast in person at the precinct polling places showed that Warren had received 2,386 votes and Rayburn had received 2,414. However, when the absentee ballots were counted, it was found that Warren had received 181 of the absentee votes, while Rayburn had received only 16. This...
