In an information filed by the District Attorney of Los Angeles County, Jack Whalen, Sam Solowitz, Roger Matthews and Julian Kranzberg were accused in Count I of the offense of assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury, a felony (Pen. Code, § 245), and in the second count defendants were charged with the crime of attempted extortion (Pen. Code, § 524).
