Fred W. Zuercher died intestate, without issue, at Marshalltown, November 5, 1952. He was survived by his widow, defendant Grace E. Zuercher, and by his mother, plaintiff Emilie Zuercher. Under the statutes of descent and distribution his widow, defendant Grace, was entitled to the first $15,000 in value of his net estate and one half the remainder.
