Petitioner, on October 22, 1934, was convicted in the Criminal Court of Cook County of the crime of burglary and sentenced to the Illinois State Penitentiary for a term of from one year to life. On June 23, 1953, he filed in the District Court for the Northern District of Illinois a petition for writ of habeas corpus, in which it was alleged that his conviction was obtained in the state court in violation of rights guaranteed him by the Fourteenth Amendment...
