On July 24, 1953 at approximately 3: — 35 p. m. the Liberty ship Portmar was proceeding up the Chehalis River under assisting tow by the tug Tussler. The Portmar was bound for a point some distance upstream from a bend in the river known as "Standard Oil Bend" because of a dock of that company located on the north bank of the river near the apex of the bend. At the same time the tug Schafer was towing a large raft of logs downstream bound...
