On March 1, 1950, one William Jones, then nineteen years of age, was discharged as "recovered" from the Matteawan State Hospital for the Criminal Insane. On March 5, 1950, four days later, he brutally stabbed seven persons, none of whom he had ever seen before, of whom four were killed, including Frank St. George.
