Chester Guillory and Albert Williams sued United Gas Corporation for injuries sustained by them when an explosion occurred in a manhole in Broad Street, Lake Charles, Louisiana, on August 11, 1950. The manhole was then under construction by Guillory's and Williams' employer, T. Miller & Sons, working under a contract for Gulf States Utilities Company.
