FLYNN, Chief Justice.

These are two actions of trespass on the case for negligence arising out of a rear-end collision between two automobiles. They were tried together in the superior court, whereupon a jury rendered a verdict for the defendant in each case. Thereafter the trial justice granted the plaintiffs' motions for new trials and the cases are here on defendant's exceptions to such decisions and to the denial of his motions for directed verdicts.
