By Act 239 of 1950, which amended and reenacted Section 1994 of Title 33 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950, LSA-R.S., relative to the maximum hours of work required of firemen, the right was accorded to members of the fire department of any city with a population of between 15,000 and 250,000 to decide by their vote whether they would work a maximum of sixty hours per week.
