Jane Gross died on October 27, 1900, leaving a will and codicils, by which, inter alia, she devised and bequeathed her residuary estate to her seven children, in equal shares, with the direction that the shares of her four daughters should be held in trust for their lives with the following provisions to become operative upon their respective deaths:

"Should any of my said daughters...
