Plaintiff, Nicholas H. Patterson, a patrolman employed by the New Orleans Police Department, instituted this suit against the defendant, Chester Ward, proprietor of the Ward Hotel, endeavoring to recover the sum of $11,500 for personal injuries incurred on June 11, 1948, at about 11:15 p.m. as a result of an assault and battery committed upon him by the defendant.
