Plaintiff, a building contractor, sued for $19,354.38 for money advanced and services rendered at defendants' special instance and request, in the construction of a building in San Jose. Defendants pleaded that plaintiff had contracted to construct a building for $22,490 according to certain plans and specifications but had failed to do so.
