On the afternoon of January 6, 1949, Beulah Hale, a young unmarried woman twenty-two years of age, was a passenger on a bus operated by C. C. Selfe, trading as C. C. Selfe Bus Lines, between Richlands, in Tazewell county, and Honaker in Russell county, Virginia.
