Deceased employee was a volunteer fireman of the Fire Department of Valley Stream, N. Y. In his regular employment, for another employer, deceased performed only clerical work at a desk. On September 19, 1948, while responding to a fire alarm, deceased was acting as "tillerman", steering the rear wheels of a long hook and ladder truck. When the alarm sounded the truck was not at the fire house, as usual, but was parked in the street about two blocks from the fire house. Deceased...
