WINBORNE, Justice.

The statute, G.S. § 1-105, under which plaintiff has attempted to bring the defendants, residents of Canada, into court in this action, provides in pertinent part that "The acceptance by a non-resident of the rights and privileges conferred by the laws now or hereafter in force in this state permitting the operation of motor vehicles, as evidenced by the operation of a motor vehicle by such non-resident on the public highways of this state...
