Appellee, Evelynea Phillips, brought this suit against appellants to recover damages resulting from alleged slanderous words spoken about her, in her presence, and in the presence of others. From a jury's verdict awarding her $1000, compensatory damages, comes this appeal.

For reversal, appellants contend (1) that the evidence was not sufficient to support the verdict and (2) that the verdict was excessive.
