May 9, 1950, the grand jury of Freeborn county, Minnesota, returned an indictment against Mrs. Viola Gavle, charging her with murder in the first degree. She was tried, convicted, and on June 24, 1950, sentenced to life imprisonment in the women's reformatory. She moved to have the verdict set aside and for a new trial.
