The parties to this action join in seeking a construction of the will of Catherine Stevenson, also known as Catherine Flieger, who died on March 14, 1950. The will was admitted to probate by the Surrogate of the County of Bergen on June 13, 1950. It provided, among other things, as follows:

"THIRD: — All the rest, residue and remainder of my estate, real, personal or mixed, whatsoever...
