The defendant was charged, tried and convicted for driving his automobile while under the influence of intoxicating liquor contrary to statute which provides maximum penalties of one year in jail or a fine of one thousand dollars or both. (S.L.H. 1949, Act 283, pt. of § 1 [§ 11721].) On conviction, he was sentenced to serve thirty days in jail and to pay the maximum fine of one thousand dollars by the trial judge who...
