On November 24, 1947, Michael Kazunas was driving his Ford automobile on Illinois Route 2, north of Rockford, Illinois. Sitting in the front seat beside him was his wife and minor child. In the rear seat was his mother-in-law, Mrs. Anna Misukanis, and her daughter, Vernie Thillman. Vernie Thillman was a sister of Mrs. Kazunas.
