The appellant, Thomas Alexander Edwards was indicted, on two separate indictments, for the murders of John L. Mahlan and Mary Kline on September 17th, 1948, in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. The cases were removed to Baltimore City. To both indictments he pleaded not guilty and elected to be tried by the court without a jury.
