D. E. Thomas, Sheriff, now serving the remainder of an elective term, was a candidate in the July 25th democratic primary for the nomination, to succeed himself. Opposing were Marlin Hawkins and William E. Bearden. The certified returns showed that 2,382 votes were cast for Hawkins, 2,164 for Thomas, and seven for Bearden. Within apt time, Ark.Stats. § 3-245, Thomas contested, attaching to his complaint a detailed list of votes alleged...
