October 6, 1944, the defendant, Frank Randolph, was indicted in the circuit court of Vermilion County for assault with a deadly weapon, with intent to kill and murder Pauline Carter. He pleaded guilty and, on October 25, 1944, was sentenced to imprisonment in the penitentiary for a term of not less than one year nor more than fourteen years.
