Plaintiff was hired by defendant as cook on a motor vessel, the "Dixie", which on the same day, March 2, 1947, began a voyage down the Ohio River. It is undisputed that, subsequent to that embarkation and prior to the arrival of the Dixie at Paducah, Kentucky, on March 14, 1947, plaintiff suffered a painful and debilitating hand injury. His claim for maintenance and cure having been withdrawn prior to trial, plaintiff here sought indemnification...
