The appellant signed on at New York as a messman on the appellee's tanker "S.S. William F. Humphrey" which left New York on March 4, 1942 and was sunk on July 16, 1942 by a German raider in the Pacific. He was taken prisoner by the Germans who kept him on their vessel until they turned him over to the Japanese on November 1, 1942. The Japanese held him interned on land from November 1, 1942 until he was liberated by the Americans on August 15...
