In order that the record will be complete, I shall briefly narrate the factual background of this suit.

On July 16, 1947, the plaintiff union and the defendant companies entered into a collective-bargaining agreement, in which the defendants recognized the union as the collective-bargaining agent for their employees, under certification by the National Labor Relations Board. This agreement
