On February 15, 1943, LST-5, a Navy vessel 337 feet long, was moving south in the Mississippi River, from 200 to 500 feet off the Tennessee shore. In preparing to anchor about 7:00 P.M., the ship made a 90° turn to the right, went about 300 feet west, made another 90° turn to the right, and anchored by the bow facing upstream.
