These cross suits grow out of a collision between the motor tanker "Poling Bros. No. 14" and the U. S. Navy tanker "Oconee," also known as "The A.O.G. 34," in the westerly channel of the East River between the Manhattan shore and Welfare (Blackwells) Island a short distance off the foot of 79th Street, Manhattan, at about 2:00 P.M. on January 19, 1945. In the collision the "Poling Bros. No. 14" sustained considerable damage on her starboard side...
