The application for patent here involved relates to traffic guards for highways — "more specifically," the specification states, "to a new and improved spring post for use in conjunction with highway guard rails." Ten claims of the application (stated in the brief for appellant to be "relatively narrow") were allowed by the examiner, but seven claims of broader scope were rejected by him as unpatentable over prior art cited.
