In March 1941 a number of Italian privately owned vessels were anchored in various Atlantic ports of the United States. On orders of the Naval Attache of the Italian Embassy to this country, the masters and crews of many of these ships respectively intentionally injured or destroyed the machinery and motive power of the ships.
