The Steamship "Iowa", on a voyage to San Francisco, left her home port, Portland, Oregon, on January 11, 1936, and after loading at Longview, Washington, on the Columbia River, cleared there on January 11, 1936. She discharged her river pilot at Astoria, and then started down the river. After she cleared the Columbia bar, and at 3:48 a. m. on the 12th of January, 1936, in a terrific storm...
