1. Heavier hydrocarbon oils are cracked to make gasoline. The cracking of heavier hydrocarbon oils to make gasoline is a chemical process. The separation of gasoline, kerosene, gas oil, lubricating oil, etc., is generally accomplished by distillation, advantage being taken of the fact that lighter products boil at lower temperatures than the heavier ones.
