The appellant, an Indian, was convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment. The victim was Mabel Sawyer, a 13 year old Indian girl, who disappeared from her home on the Bannock Indian Reservation in Idaho on the 9th day of October 1932, and whose decaying body was discovered December 4, 1932, on an isolated island on the reservation. From the condition of the body it was evident that she had been choked to death by means of a rag tied...
