The case involves the construction of a statute of the United States which makes it a crime for an officer or employee of a federal reserve bank, or of any member bank, to make any entry in its books with intent to defraud. R.S. § 5209 as amended by the Act of September 26, 1918, c. 177, § 7, 40 Stat. 972; 12 U.S. Code, § 592.1
