This action is brought to recover for what is alleged to have been an overassessment of income and profits taxes paid by the plaintiff for the year 1920.

Plaintiff, prior to the year 1914, was engaged in the development and production of crude petroleum. It was a successor in title to a claim held under a placer mining location, covering forty acres of land in the Kern River district, Cal. The placer location was made in the year 1900...
