On September 17 and 18, 1928, at Newport News, Va., four seamen, St. Cliarz, Franklin, Riely, and Daniel, by name, signed articles for a voyage on the schooner Velma L. Hamlin, which voyage was described in the articles as "from the port of Newport News, to Bangor, Maine, and such other ports and places as the master may direct, and back to a final port of discharge in the United States, for a term of time not exceeding three calendar months...
