On October 20, 1927, at about 5:55 p. m., the passenger steamer Lexington, bound from New York to Providence via Long Island Sound, came into collision with the scow Clifford in the East River, causing it serious damage. The Clifford was in tow of the two tugs Senator Rice and Hercules.
