Craven, with 19 others, was indicted for conspiracy to commit an offense against the United States by importing at Boston whisky and beer without paying the customs duties thereon. The case was tried twice. Before the second trial 15 of the defendants pleaded guilty. Craven was the only defendant at the second trial.
