Prior to May 15, 1901, the plaintiff was a member of the J. M. Guffey Company, a partnership composed of himself, John H. Galey, and A. F. Lucas, which owned about 1,000,000 acres of oil leases in Texas and Louisiana. Shortly before the date mentioned, a syndicate, of which plaintiff was a member, was organized to take over the holdings of this partnership, and a Texas charter was obtained. The company was called the J. M. Guffey Petroleum...
