MANTON, Circuit Judge.

The steamer Putnam, 150 feet long, 22 feet beam, was used for carrying cargo and towing boats on the canal. On the morning of October 30, 1922, she was a short distance above Eagle Harbor, on the Erie Barge Canal, towing five barges which were light and one which was loaded.
