STORY, J. delivered the opinion of the Court as follows:

The American letter of marque, schooner Adeline, with a valuable cargo on board, was captured on her voyage from Bordeanx to New York, on or about the 14th of March, 1814, by a British squadron; and, on or about the 19th of the same month, was re-captured by the American privateer, Expedition, James Clayton, commander, and brought into New York for adjudication...
