Following his sexual encounter with the then-14-year-old victim, defendant was indicted and charged with one count of rape in the first degree and one count of rape in the second degree. In full satisfaction of that indictment and other pending charges, defendant agreed to plead guilty to rape in the second degree in exchange for a prison term of seven years followed by 15 years of postrelease supervision.
