On 19 November 1993, two judgments, each sentencing defendant to death, were entered in the Superior Court of Harnett County upon jury verdicts finding defendant guilty of the first-degree murders of Leon Batten and Margaret Batten and recommending that he be sentenced to death for each of those crimes.
