Following a jury trial, the defendant, Spencer Vardaman Stephens, was convicted as charged of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The trial court sentenced the defendant to 12 years at hard labor, the first 10 years to be served without benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence.
