This criminal appeal arises from the First Judicial District Court, Parish of Caddo, State of Louisiana, whereby a jury convicted the defendant, Demarcus Cartez Jones, of second degree murder, a violation of La. R.S. 14:30.1. After the trial court denied Jones's post-verdict motions for acquittal and new trial, he was sentenced to serve the mandatory term of life imprisonment at hard labor without benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence...
