The defendant, Arria S. Loper, was charged by bill of information with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, a violation of LSA-R.S. 14:95.1. The defendant pled not guilty and, following a jury trial, was found guilty as charged. The defendant filed a motion for postverdict judgment of acquittal, which was denied. The defendant was sentenced to thirteen years imprisonment at hard labor without benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence...
