Daniel Hudson filed suit in a federal district court in Illinois under the Federal Tort Claims Act, charging that medical personnel at a federal prison in Kansas in which he had been incarcerated had negligently failed to diagnose a blood clot in his leg and that as a result he had experienced serious health problems.
