In 2002, King sued several MDOC employees under 42 U.S.C. § 1983 for violating his First Amendment rights when they transferred him from the Brooks Correctional Facility ("Brooks"), a Level II security facility, to the Chippewa Correctional Facility ("Chippewa"), a Level III facility, in May of 2000.
